PORTLAND – Negotiators for Portland’s teachers union and Portland Public Schools were in state mediation Monday to continue discussions about a new contract.

The Portland Association of Teachers said it wants an 11 ½ percent pay raise over two years for its educators. The district offered a 2 percent raise.

The negotiations have been ongoing since April. If an agreement isn’t reached within 30 days, the teachers have the right to go on strike.
