PORTLAND -- Are kids getting too much homework? One dad set out to answer that question for himself, and documented the experience for The Atlantic.

The title of Karl Taro Greenfeld's piece gives away the answer: “My Daughter’s Homework Is Killing Me.”

He did his daughter's middle school homework for one week, studying algebra, science, humanities and Spanish, and reading “Angela’s Ashes.”

Greenfeld said the homework took him about three hours per night. And his daughter called it a “light week.”

He said he's impressed by the work schools are trying to do, but he’s worried the workload is just too much.
