MANZANITA, Ore. – A young Northern Fur Seal made a rare visit to the Oregon Coast last weekend.

People spotted the seal near Fort Stevens State Park and also in Manzanita.

Experts said the young seal is likely making his way north.

It’s common to see Harbor Seals or Sea Lions, but a Northern Fur Seal sighting is rare for the Oregon Coast.

The Marine Mammal Stranding Network has been alerted and checked the fur seal, to make sure it appeared healthy.

“He's actually been coming in quite a ways inland and up into the dunes to rest. There is nothing wrong with him,” said Keith Strandler with the Marine Mammal Stranding Network. “If you see him, call the network and we'll come out and monitor him some more.”

Strandler also wanted to warn anyone who sees the fur seal to leave it alone and let it rest.
