SANDY -- Police captured an emu running through traffic on U.S. 26 Wednesday morning.

With help from passersby, Oregon State Trooper Mike Reel and Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy Shane Jensen were able to round up the emu.

It was taken to the Mount Hood Equestrian Center and held until animal control officers fetched it and tried to find the owner.

"The emu appeared to be in good spirits and enjoying the beautiful day," said Sheriff's Office spokesman Nick Watt.
