SALEM -- A sudden influx of stray dogs from the New Year's Eve weekend has the Marion County Animal Shelter at full capacity.

The shelter now has 40 stray dogs, manager Sonya Pulvers told KGW. The group includes pugs, Labradors and terriers.

Depending on whether they had ID, the owners are given three to five days to claim their dogs, she said. If they remain at the shelter, they are evaluated for adoption. If not adopted, they are euthanized if not taken by animal protection groups.

"The window is really kind of short," she said.
