SANDY, Ore. -- A black Labrador was reunited with his owners early Thursday morning after being pulled away by the Sandy River.

“J.D.” went into the water while a father and son were fishing near Southeast Marmot and Big Sandy Dam roads.

A current pulled the dog away. He was eventually able to pull himself out of the water, but was then stuck on a ledge for hours.

The father called in a rescue team when he lost sight of the dog.

"The rescue team came and they had to rappel down to go find him,” said the son, Jordan Tibbet. “And they found him!"

J.D. was tired and weak from the episode, but was expected to fully recover.
