SALEM -- After deputies warned people in Salem to guard their small children and pets from a 10-foot boa constrictor on the loose, the snake's owner found it inside a wall in her home.

The owner said nearly two weeks ago that 23-year-old "Nomad" had probably slithered out of her second-story window on Treewood Lane SE.

Wednesday morning she let deputies know she found the snake inside the house.

"According to the snake's owner she (Nomad) found a hole in the sheet rock inside of their residence and climbed inside of a wall, where she remained until she was located," said Sgt. Chris Baldridge of the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The owner assured deputies she has bought an upgraded snake cage to prevent any future escapes.

"The sheriff's office would like to thank all of the citizens who offered their help during this strange incident," Baldridge said.
