PORTLAND -- Weird Portland earned a fourth place in a Travel & Leisure magazine survey of U.S. cities with the strangest people.

The magazine asked readers to look at 35 cities for the survey. Number one was New Orleans, followed by Santa Fe, N.M., Austin, Texas, Portland and San Francisco.

Corey Lewis of Las Vegas told Travel & Leisure “You see more mustaches in Portland than in a 1970s high school yearbook.”

He said while some cities have areas called an 'arts district,' all of Portland could fall into that category.

The magazine said factors for ranking the cities ranged from flamboyant people watching to the number of galleries, theaters, festivals and microbreweries.

For Portland, the magazine specifically listed Portlanders love of bicycles, food carts and (what?) comfortable shoes.
