BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A Beaverton Mom is offering an inspiring perspective on what she knows could be her last Mother’s Day.

“It’s very difficult being a sick Mom. Much of the time I have too much pain or fatigue to take care of my children the way I want to,” said Summar Ruelle, who has stage 4 breast cancer.

Her story is especially difficult because her daughter has also been fighting cancer. They were diagnosed within 11 days of each other.

“She’s such a caring little girl and when I’m down I look at her and say she’s doing it so I can,” remarked Summar as her 4-year-old daughter Sapphire sat on her lap.

Sapphire has responded well to treatments at Randall Children’s Hospital, fulfilling one wish Summar has for Mother’s Day.

“She’s come a long way,” commented her Mom.

For Summar, the news has not been as positive.

“I found out in February the cancer spread to my hip and spine," Summar said.

On her list of dreams this Mother’s Day is one she shares with her daughter.

“She wants a horse and I hope to make that happen. It’s a dream we share,” said Summar through tears.

Summar’s husband has not been working so he can care for his wife and daughter, so it has become difficult to make the dreams of Sapphire and her brother Jayden come true.

“We’ve had tremendous support from the community and are so grateful,” remarked Summar.

The family has kept track of their journey on a website where offers of help come in. Summar’s important wish for Mother’s Day is what one would expect, better news at her doctor’s visit.

“The longer I have clean scans – the longer I’m here with my children,” she concluded, as her daughter squeezed her arm in a show of support.
