PORTLAND -- The 27th annual Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival kicks off Thursday morning at Waterfront Park.

“This might be our best lineup ever,” said longtime Blues Festival producer Clay Fuller. “On Thursday, we’ll have Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys, said Fuller.  Boz Scaggs (below) will be here Sunday.”

Crews had been setting up the festival grounds, including four performance stages, since June 23.

“The setup is a whole experience in itself,” said Fuller. “We come into a bare park and we create a little city.”

Festival attendance averaged 115,000 people over the last five years. This year may exceed that, with temperatures expected to be in the 70s and 80s.

“Those are ideal festival conditions!” Said Fuller.

In honor of Independence Day, the festival will light up the night sky with a spectacular fireworks display, at 10:00 PM, Friday night.

The festival runs Thursday through Sunday. Daily admission is a suggested donation of $10. All proceeds go to the Oregon Food Bank.
