PORTLAND -- There's a lot to do in the Portland Metro area and beyond for the Independence Day weekend, and here's a look at a few options.
The Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival boasts 125 performances on four stages and includes a fireworks display on July 4th, at Tom McCall Waterfront Park on the Willamette River.
Independence Day at Fort Vancouver is always a good bet for a spectacular fireworks display. This year's fireworks will again be launched from Pearson Field and will be synchronized to music.
The combination of the Portland and Vancouver displays put the metro area on USA TODAY's list of Top 10 Fourth of July fireworks in the country
Oaks Park is open from 10 a.m. until midnight for its 4th of July Spectacular that includes a full day of rides, games and more, capped off in the evening with a fireworks over the Willamette River.
Lake Oswego's Star Spangled Parade and Celebration starts at 10 a.m. and includes family events, like a pie-eating contest and a visit from the Oregon Mermaids, leading up to a fireworks display at 9:45.
Happy Valley will also host an Independence Day celebration all day at Happy Valley Park, ending with a 30-minute fireworks display directly over the park.
Gresham plans to make a splash over the holiday weekend with the debut of the Children's Fountain, (pictured below, lit like fireworks), opening Friday at 7 a.m.
And if you're looking for a rodeo, you're in luck this weeked!
The Estacada Timber Festival features logging events and competitions, live performances, kids' rides and more (and also boast's Clackamas County's biggest aerial fireworks display).
Hood River will celebrate Independence Day with a memorial run/walk, a parade, food, arts, crafts and more.
And the weather will apparently be cooperating for the "unofficial start of Portland summer." Morning clouds will burn off quickly and we'll move from a high of 76 degrees Thursday to about 85 on Sunday.
