PORTLAND, Ore. -- For mothers, struggling with addiction on the streets of Portland, life can feel like a constant uphill battle.
When they do begin the journey of getting help, they find many treatment programs don't allow children. This forces women to turn their kids over to family members or the foster care system. Union Gospel Mission has developed a program, Life Change, which allows mothers to go through the journey of recovery with their kids.
Saturday, May 20, at the Washington Square Embassy Suites, Union Gospel Mission will be hosting a event for the Women's Life Change program which involves both the moms and the kids in the fundraising. The Tea Party and Fashion Show is going to feature styles found at the Union Gospel Mission thrift store and modeled by mothers and children in the program. There is no cost for admission but they will be asking for donations.
