Portland coffee shop becomes 'Luke's Diner' from Gilmore Girls

Ahead of Netflix revival, local roaster goes full 'Gilmore Girls'

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Southeast Portland's Oblique Coffee Roasters has become "Luke's Diner" for one day, in honor of the return of the hit show "Gilmore Girls."

Oblique is one of more than 200 coffeehouses nationwide that Netflix is turning into Luke's Diners, ahead of the premiere of "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" on Nov. 25.

Each temporary Luke's will include décor from the show, such as Luke's signs, Luke's aprons, Luke's backwards caps and Luke's coffee cups covered in Gilmore Girls quotes.

You may even stumble upon a cardboard cut-out of Luke Danes and a sign that says "no cell phones," says Comoncy cafés marketing manager Amber Jamal. At the three Comoncy locations getting the Luke's treatment, free coffee will be available for the first 200-250 customers.

Also: Look out for messages under the coffee sleeves. You could win a a few months of free Netflix, Jamal says.

And if that isn't enough Gilmore for you, the cast reflects back on the show in this featurette celebrating the 16th anniversary.
