One of them is the V-Team, which has a team member with an incredible story.

Nine years ago, Gary Dismukes had triple bypass surgery. Doctors told him two coronary arteries were 95 percent blocked. A third 80 percent blocked.

Dismukes was a runner before the surgery and he hasn't let it slow him down.

"It actually changed my life forever. It's the best thing that ever happened to me." Dismukes says.

This will be his third Hood to Coast, all taking place after the bypass surgery.

He's also completed a bunch of 10k races and half marathons. He's even done a half Iron Man triathlon.

Dismukes says you simply can't give up, no matter what you have to deal with.

"You just have to put one foot in front of the other. You change your destiny with every step," he said.
