Oregon baby returns home after two years in hospital

Baby comes home after 731 days in hospital.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — After more than a year and a half in a neonatal intensive care unit in Columbus, Ohio, a Beaverton baby has returned home to Oregon.

Ashton Stone made it home on Nov. 20, his second birthday. Ashton was born during Tara Stone’s 27th week of pregnancy.

Doctors had to deliver Ashton to save his mother’s life. He weighed just over two pounds and had multiple medical issues including a chronic lung disease. Doctors gave him little chance of survival, so his parents took him to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

"We both left our jobs to save our son," Tara said.

In June, Ashton started to improve and they finally made the trip back to Oregon.

He still has challeges ahead of him but the Stone family said they are glad to be home.
