PORTLAND, Ore. -- Travel Oregon is headed to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, to compete.
The state tourism promoters hope to capitalize on the Olympics as a chance to tell the world what that there's no place like Oregon.
Alaska, Idaho and Washington state will join Travel Oregon Sunday in Vancouver to roll out the red carpet for the world media.
"There's such a great vibe around the Olympics, we thought it was a really viable opportunity in keeping our momentum up in that market" said Lisa Itel, Travel Trade Manager with Travel Oregon.
Travel Oregon has been working for more than a year to cultivate a deeper relationship with Vancouver BC and the region. It's all about working together. Everyone benefits.
"A great tourism resource, a great business and economic resource, so we all need each other. And we're all a viable part, integral part of each other success" said Itel.
Each state will put it best foot forward by offering what it does best. Oregon's promoters will tout the state's food, beer and wine.
"We'll have Oregon wines, Oregon brews, Pacific Northwest bounty to serve to all the media and trade partners" said Itel, noting that this is a "long-term opportunity" to foster relations with the region.
Itel notes Travel Oregon is looking at this as a long term opportunity, not just for the games, but well beyond.
"We're looking to build future partnerships, future travel, future stores."
