PORTLAND – One man was arrested Saturday night after police said he was speed racing with another driver near Mount Hood, hitting nearly 100 m.p.h.

Oregon State Police stopped two cars around 10 p.m. on the Highway 26 traffic safety corridor near Welches. Both were clocked at 97 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Troopers arrested 26-year-old Viatcheslav Kuzmin for speed racing, driving while suspended, DUII and having an open container of alcohol. OSP said he and the other unidentified driver blamed each other for provoking the race.

The other driver was cited for speed racing.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story stated Troopers charged Kuzmin with driving "with a suspended license." Kuzmin was driving with a valid license from another state, but his driving privileges in Oregon were suspended, and the formal term for that violation is "driving while suspended." This report has been updated to reflect that clarification.
