PORTLAND, Ore. -- It's a global phenomenon - a video shot right here in Portland that has taken YouTube by storm, with more than 3 million hits and counting.

The idea, created by Medline and shot at Providence St. Vincent Hospital was simple: Don some pink gloves, get together and dance, put it up on the web. Simple. Then the video went viral on the internet and everything changed.

"When we got the call that it had gone viral-- to us-- viral is not good,” said Martie Moore,a nurse at Providence. “We were like, 'what do you mean "viral"?'

The calls started pouring in. Letters, too, by the thousands, from all over the world.

"One gentleman called and said he lost his wife in 2005 and he felt like he'd been alone for a long time and he saw this video and it reminded him that people care, and he called just sobbing," said Moore.

Paula Zellers runs a little shop in the hospital that sells wigs and inspiration to people dealing with cancer.

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 which was 4 years after my mother died from it," said Zellers.

Like many others, she donned pink for the video.

"All of a sudden you start getting all of these emails and calls,” said Zellers. “I had no idea that many people looked at YouTube!"

Zellers said it means a lot that so many people are clicking on this fun reminder that breast cancer really does touch so many.

"There are people who care about people who have breast cancer,” said Zellers. "It was everyone in this hospital. It was amazing."

You know you've arrived when you make it on “Snopes.” The myth-busting website confirms Medline-- which makes the pink gloves-- is donating part of the proceeds on the sale of these pink gloves to the national breast cancer foundation.
