CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A suspected drug dealing operation led investigators to a possible dog fighting ring near Corvallis Thursday.
Benton County deputies and Corvallis Police were serving warrants at two homes in Corvallis Wednesday, arresting three people and seizing around 14 pounds of marijuana from NW Fillmore and 5246 SW Technology Loop in Corvallis.
Investigators arrested 32-year-old Cody Hufeld, 29-year-old Victoria McKenna and 28-year-old Charles Newquest on drug dealing charges.
During a search, police said they found information that led them to 19365 South Fork Road in Alsea, where they found 15 pit bulls suspected of being involved in dog fighting. The animals had "injuries consistent with dogs that have been utilized for dog fighting," Corvallis police said.
Deputies also said they found more evidence that training and breeding dogs for fighting took place there. Investigators were not sure if the actual fights happened at the Alsea home, however.
The dogs were being evaluated and treated by vets at the Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis.
Police said more charges were expected to be filed.
