PORTLAND -- Lightning and thunder woke up residents from Salem up to Portland and Southwest Washington early Monday morning.

Lightning struck a tree in North Portland at Polk and Ivanhoe and caused an outage to about 1,600 customers of Portland General Electric. Power was expected to be restored by about 7:30 a.m., according to the PGE outage report.
Dispatchers reported no other major problems from the thunderstorm.

"For the rest of the day we'll see partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with some pockets of drizzle especially at the coast," said KGW meteorologist Nick Allard.
Temperatures will stay below normal in the mid-70s, he said.
