McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The parents of two young children left alone before a fire broke out in a McMinnville apartment have been arrested for child neglect.

Krystal Heusel and John Wilson left their 5-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son at the apartment while they went to an appointment for their third child, police said.

The boy jumped out a window after the fire broke out and a neighbor rescued the girl.  The parents returned home as officers were questioning the kids. Investigators believe one of the children or a dog started the fire by knocking over a candle.

Wilson and Heusel, both 25, have been charged with child neglect and criminal mistreatment.  All three of their children were taken into protective custody by the Department of Human Services.

A total of 15 tenants were displaced by the fire last Friday. The apartment complex is located at 1750 SW Sesame Street in McMinnville.

Bail for Wilson and Heusel has been set at $12,500 at the Yamhill County Correctional Facility.
