Heavy snow makes a slow drive in mountains

GOVERNMENT CAMP - Heavy snow and near-whiteout conditions was making roads treacherous on Mount Hood and in the Oregon Cascades.

Forecasters expected one to three feet of new snow in the higher Cascades through Wednesday, and the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Oregon Cascades. Read: NWS Winter storm warning

On Mt. Hood, Oregon Department of Transportation crews were plowing the roads trying to keep Hwy 26 clear for those heading through Government Camp.

Chains or traction tires were required for travelers heading over the mountain pass.
