PORTLAND, Ore. -- Who replaces Ted Wheeler?
The first person to fill in as County Chair will be Jana McLellan. She is Ted Wheeler’s Chief Operating Officer and as such is already approved by the county commission to fill in as the “interim designee.”
She will officially become the County Chair Thursday when Wheeler is expected to formally resign.
From there it gets interesting. At some point, not defined by law, the county commission will nominate and vote on the person who will fill the role as County Chair until Wheeler’s term expires on December 31, 2010.
How the commissioners decide who to nominate is not defined by law. It’s a wide open process.
This overall system is defined by county law because Wheeler’s remaining term is longer than 3 months but less than a year.
