PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 25-year-old Portland man was killed Wednesday morning after a vehicle hit him on Hwy 30 between the Sauvie Island and St. Johns bridges.

Zeken Barker was hit by a vehicle travelling westbound during the early-morning commute, about 5:15 a.m., according to police. The woman said she was on the way to work and did not see him walking along the highway, near the intersection with NW Harborton Drive.

Investigators said Barker was wearing dark clothing and walking along a stretch of the road that was poorly lit, in the rain. The driver was not identified by police.

Detective Mary Wheat said she cooperated with police, remained on the scene, and did not appear to break any laws. No charges were filed against her.

Highway 30 was closed for about four hours, forcing commuters to navigate a West Hills detour in order to get into the city.
