Thanks to our KGW.com visitors for the hundreds of emails about our re-launched news web site! Lots of you have appreciated the new features of KGW.com, including the cleaner design, all the additional news stories “above the fold”, page-loading improvements, the larger and sharper video player with embedding options, and the easy social media sharing features.

We’ve also received lots of questions about “Where do I find…?” We realize we have “rearranged the furniture” here at KGW.com so we’ve put a handy little alphabetized directory to help you re-connect with your favorite content. Just click "Where do I find...?"

There are also some common questions and comments and we wanted to share those, as well as give you the answers to those questions.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What happened to your Daily Poll on the home page? I loved that!

We love the KGW.com Daily Poll, too! We were not able to migrate that module immediately during the re-launch, but the KGW.com Daily Poll WILL return to the home page soon!

Where is the Weather Conditions page? I liked the detail of getting MY city’s weather?

This is a very popular page that was missing for the first two days but is alive and well and back on KGW.com in the WEATHER section, just click on CONDITIONS. Or, bookmark this link: http://weather.kgw.com/US/OR/

What happened to the Zip Code forecast?

Good news, it’s now actually on the main WEATHER page at www.kgw.com/weather/. Just scroll down to the “Enter Your Zip Code” box to get a hyperlocal forecast.

My email newsletters (forecast, headlines) don’t work!

You’re right. The newsletters are still trying to link to the old version, we expect to have this fixed ASAP as we know it’s an important way people get our news!

How do I get News Near You (Vancouver, Salem news)?

The “News Near You” page is under re-construction. But we are still publishing all the same great non-Metro content, including news for Vancouver, Salem, the Coast and Central Oregon. Our new and prominent “Search” box at the top of every page is the fastest way to create YOUR news, just type “Vancouver” for example, and select “most recent” as the sorting method and you’ll get all the news near you.

The commenting feature lost some of its functions!

You are right, when we launched the new news site, we were not able to move the database tied to the old commenting tool. That means folks may be asked to enter or re-enter their screen name and avatars are not yet re-activated. Also, we’ve lost “paragraphing” temporarily in the comment posts, and the ‘up/down” and “flag” features. Like you, we like all these features, and will restore them as soon as possible! We also agree that entering the “Katpcha” characters is annoying, and that will be removed.

I’m a member and having trouble registering!

Some of the database of our members didn’t survive the migration so a few folks will be asked to sign in who are already members. Just re-enter your email, and your password. Click here if you've forgotten your password. If that still doesn’t work, please click on this link to contact us and report your problem, and we will get you restored in the system, we apologize for the inconvenience!

Almost ALL our registered users will be asked, one time only, to create a “screen name”. This is what people would see if you ever choose to post a comment, or upload a video or photo.

How do I upload birthday/weather/news/travel photos?

Just click on the Your Pics link in our navigation, and then click on the Submit a Story link.

Keep those questions and comments coming, and we’ll respond as quickly as we can. If it takes a bit, it’s because we’re working on what you have reported!
