WARM SPRINGS, Ore. -- Stubborn wildfires on the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs reservation have threatened a subdivision, closed a highway and shut down camping and rafting on a portion of the Deschutes River.

About 40 residents of the Sidwalter subdivision on the reservation remained on evacuation alert Tuesday after engine task forces fought off the wind-driven Powerline fire late Monday afternoon.

Fire spokesman Tom Lavagnino says Highway 26 through the reservation remains closed, as is Segment One of the Deschutes River, from Mecca Flats to South Canyon.

Authorities closed a stretch of Highway 26 on the Warm Springs Reservation as a precaution Monday and then scaled back the closure to only include truck traffic on Tuesday. A detour was set up putting truckers on US97 to Biggs Junction and then onto I-84.

On Mount Hood, firefighters are wrapping the historic Cloud Cap Inn with fire-resistant material to protect it against the Dollar Lake fire, which has grown to 1,500 acres.

Oregon's biggest blaze, the 53,000-acre Hancock fire west of Fossil, is expected to be contained Tuesday evening.
