PORTLAND -- A man talking on his cellphone drove into the back of an Oregon State Police car Tuesday morning.
The lieutenant was southbound on I-205 near Foster Road in an unmarked patrol car, according to OSP spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings.
A southbound 1992 Toyota Camry crashed into the rear end of the police car, forcing it onto the center median grass. The officer was able to bring the car safely to rest on the inside freeway shoulder, Hastings said.
Jerry Anderson, 70, of Portland, was cited for careless driving and operating a motor vehicle while using a mobile communication device.
Neither driver was seriously injured. Both drivers were using seat belts and both vehicles were driven from the scene.
The Portland police investigated the accident. Hastings said. Anderson told police that he was distracted and not focusing on traffic ahead of him.
