PORTLAND -- A North Portland man is upset after his dog was attacked and killed by a pit bull.  It happened last Tuesday evening in front of a home in the 8300 block of N. Willamette Boulevard.

"The girl comes out with two dogs and the just immediately start charging across the front yard and snarling," said Donald Graiff.

Graiff said one of the dogs was a pit bull.  He said it broke free from the leash and came right at his lab, Molly.

"The dog hesitated for five seconds and then just lunged at her neck and grabbed her," said Graiff.  "It twisted and pulled down and Molly let out a death squeal."

Graiff said the attack lasted for several minutes.  There was nothing he or the pit bull's caretaker could do to stop it.

"The girl came out and grabbed the dog by the neck and was yelling, 'No, no,' and trying to get the dog off," said Graiff.  "But it wouldn't let go."

Graiff said Molly suffered a seven inch laceration to her neck.  She had to be put to sleep later that night.

"It was real quick," said Graiff.

Police have not cited or charged the pit bull's owner.  Our attempts to reach him for comment on this story were unsuccessful.  Meanwhile, Graiff believes all pit bulls should be outlawed within city limits and he wants the pit bull that attacked Molly put down.

"It's dangerous," Graiff said.  "There was no controlling it, it was out to get Molly."
