SALEM -- The storm that caused widespread flooding and forced the governor to declare nine counties disaster areas has cost Oregon $38 million in damages, according to preliminary estimates.

Gov. Kitzhaber toured Marion County after the storm because it was the hardest-hit area. Just that county alone will need more than $11 million to repair damages - much of it earmarked for Salem bridges.

Marion County deputies had to use rescue boats to reach residents stranded by floods in the Turner area.  Around 300 homes were directly affected by the flood waters.

Residents in the small community of Scio were also forced to evacuate. No major injuries were reported.

Kitzhaber's emergency declaration authorized the use of state resources for the response to flooding and storm damage in Marion, Coos, Benton, and Lincoln counties.
