MCMINNVILLE -- Seven sows and 23 piglets died in an early morning barn fire at 14670 SW Oldsville Road.
Flames had engulfed the 20 by 30 barn by the time fire fighters arrived about 3 a.m. The barn was allowed to burn and fire fighters remained outside spraying water.
No humans were hurt.
A heat lamp started the fire, said Fire Marshal Eric McMullen. Owner Ken Schmidt said the pigs were valued at about $5,000. The uninsured barn was worth about $5,000, he said.
