Gas prices cause some to ponder holiday travel

Despite a historical spike in gas prices, most Memorial Day travelers didn’t plan on staying home this year but they are rethinking some of their trip distances.

The highest price in the Portland metro was at the Chevron on W. Burnside is at $4.09 for regular unleaded.
The Oregon average price is $3.84.

To get a better idea of how this affects consumers, an analysis was conducted, comparing the current gas prices to this time last year and the impact it would have on a typical family trip. Here's how much more it will cost for the following round trips:
- PDX to Seattle $8 more than last year
- PDX to Seaside $2.76 more than last year
- PDX to Bend $4.84 more than last year
- PDX to Medford $10.92 more than last year
- PDX to Spokane $27.84 more than last year
A national survey found the first measurable dip in travel since 2002 which was the first holiday after the 9-11 attacks.
