CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK -- The Crater Lake Lodge is opening for the season, although the park still has significant snow.

The Mazama Campground will open as the weather permits, probably about June 1. Snow clearing efforts on Rim Drive, the 33-mile road that circles the lake, are continuing. The lodge was to open Wednesday.

This week crews had moved past the parking area at The Watchman overlook. The north entrance, which simplifies north-south travel through the park, is expected to open by early June.
