The Chinese peony flower
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland’s Chinese Garden will celebrate the peony, China’s unofficial flower, during the month of May, and the public was invited to come and honor mom during the observance.
The Classical Chinese Garden planned to celebrate Passion for Peonies and visitors would be treated to a closer look at the “stunning and culturally rich plants.”
Peonies have been revered by the Chinese through the ages, according to the garden, admired for its large blooms and foliage.
The gardens were hosting a lecture and demonstration with Chinese tree peonies on Mother’s Day weekend, May 9-10. Attendees would be able to make handmade Chinese book marks or stenciled peony bookmarks, and mom could be treated to peony tea at the garden’s tea house.
Tree and herbaceous peonies would also be available for purchase during the event.
Passion for Peonies would be ongoing throughout the month of May. Those interested could check the Portland Chinese Garden website for more information and a schedule of events.
