PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- State public health officials and the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a recall of Sprouter's Northwest brand alfalfa sprouts due to a salmonellosis outbreak.

The Oregon Department of Human Services said Thursday that the company voluntarily recalled the product linked to at least 13 salmonellosis cases. The sprouts were distributed to grocery stores, restaurants and other retail outlets in Oregon and Washington.

Salmonellosis can cause diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Health officials say people who have eaten sprouts and develop severe symptoms should see their doctors.
