Oregon children diagnosed with whooping cough
01:16 PM PDT on Wednesday, May 14, 2008
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- Health officials in Klamath County have identified two confirmed cases of whooping cough in children.
Officials say one infected child is a student at Shasta Elementary school, the other attends Henley Middle School.
Efforts are being made at both schools to identify close contacts of the two infected children in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
Officials say anyone who has not been immunized is at risk.
Early symptoms of the disease are similar to a cold: sneezing, running nose, and low fever. It can be treated with antibiotics.
