Sexy surgery

It's still a taboo subject for many women - after childbirth, sex just isn't the same.

"Women know they have a problem but they're really afraid to talk about it because they feel like they're the only one," said Dr. Karen Hamilton.

Dr. Karen Hamilton is the first doctor in the Northwest to offer a surgical solution to help tighten internal muscles loosened by childbirth. It's called laser vaginal rejuvenation, a procedure invented by Dr. David Matlock of "Dr. 90210" fame.

Basically, it's a modification of surgery used to treat bladder leakage, which is why Lorayne Ham had it done.

The procedure takes 1 to 2 hours. Recovery time is quick. Dr. Hamilton also offers women other sexual enhancements, including a collagen injection for the g-spot to increase sensation.

"We're vital into our 50s, 60s 70s, even 80s, so why shouldn't we enjoy our sexual activity, too. Men do, so why not women, too?" she said.

Vaginal rejuvenation is not without its critics. The American College of Obstetricians and gynecologists is opposed, saying that the procedure is "not medically indicated."

Dr. Hamilton disagrees.

"Not only is this a cosmetic procedure, its a functional procedure as well. So it really enhances self esteem, makes people feel better and more excited about life," she said.

Just ask Lorayne.

"You just sort of figure that you're resigned to have to deal with that as a women and you don't have to… not anymore," she said.

The procedure is not covered by insurance. The average cost is about $7,000, about the same as for breast implants.

Dr. Hamilton received training from Dr. Matlock.
