Oregon's mental health care for children praised

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A national health organization says Oregon has done well addressing the mental health care of its children.
The National Center for Children in Poverty says Oregon is one of 23 states doing "innovative" work to help children.
Under a directive from the 2003 Legislature, the state increased the availability and quality of children's mental health care.
As a result of the changes, children's use of Oregon community-based mental health services has increased over the last two years. And use of psychiatric residential treatment and acute care services has decreased. Family participation in treatment decisions and their satisfaction levels are up.
