PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The U.S. Energy Department says Oregon will get $16.8 million in federal stimulus money for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

The agency said Friday the money will go for a program that helps reduce energy costs and raise efficiency in public and school buildings.

The agency said more stimulus money for Oregon's State Energy Program will be forthcoming, eventually totaling $42 million.

It says the money can be used for such activities as energy audits, building retrofits, education and training, increasing the use of alternative fuels and hybrid vehicles, and new ways of financing energy efficiency and renewable energy.
