Oregon counties join Sierra Club to curb global warming
07:47 AM PDT on Friday, April 11, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Multnomah and Clackamas counties joined the Sierra Club in a plan to fight global warming by aiming to reduce the counties' greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050.
They are the first counties in Oregon to join the Sierra Club's campaign that is now taking place in 30 counties nationwide.
The Sierra Club says the counties' commitment Thursday demonstrates that local governments won't wait for the federal government to act on global warming and changing national energy policy.
