09:53 AM PDT on Sunday, March 30, 2008
HILLSBORO, Ore. -- The weather was awful, but 37-hundred volunteers turned out for Oregon's 24th annual beach cleanup and picked up about 110,000 pounds of trash along the 362-mile coastline.

Thousands of volunteers braved heavy rain and winds for the 22nd SOLV Beach Cleanup.
Saturday's cleanup, organized each year by SOLV, rounds up some unusual items each year in addition to the more routine trash.
This year's haul included crab pots, commercial fishing gear, a freezer door, a pesticide applicator, a television set, water tanks and an unusually large number of plastic bottles.
SOLV was founded in 1969 by the late Governor Tom McCall to address litter and vandalism problems.
