SALEM -- West Hills Enterprises of Salem has pleaded guilty to a felony violation of the Clean Air Act.

The complaint was for failing to comply with workplace standards for handling of asbestos, a hazardous air pollutant.

The company was fined $45,000.

It will be paid as community service to the Oregon Governor's Fund for the Environment. That's an endowment established by the U.S. Attorney and Governor of Oregon to fund environmental projects in the District of Oregon.

West Hills Enterprises demolished a building at Liberty Road in Salem. Officials said it contained thousands of square feet of asbestos-containing materials in violation of the law.
