EL PASO, Texas (AP) -- His main character, George Jefferson, was proud to be "movin' on up" -- as sang in the theme song of his 1970's sitcom. But the embalmed body of actor Sherman Hemsley won't be going anywhere anytime soon. His body is being kept in refrigeration at a funeral home in El Paso, Texas -- until a local court rules on the validity of his will. Hemsley signed a will six weeks before he died of lung cancer last month. In it, he named Flora Enchinton -- a "beloved partner" as sole beneficiary of his estate, which is estimated at more than $50,000. The will is being contested by Richard Thornton -- who claims to be Hemsley's brother. Thornton claims the will may not have been made by the actor.
