M.I.A.: UPSTAGES MADONNA WITH OBSCENE GESTURE DURING HALFTIME SHOW
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Madonna was the headliner at the Super Bowl halftime show. But it was M.I.A (right) who ended up stealing the headlines. She stuck up her middle finger at the end of her solo lines during the performance of Madonna's new single "Give Me All Your Luvin."' She also appeared to sing an expletive -- though it was hard to hear that clearly. Madonna was joined by M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj on the halftime show. Last night's incident brought to mind Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" eight years ago -- when Justin Timberlake grabbed her outfit, exposing her right nipple. NBC blurred the screen after M.I.A.'s gesture -- but it was too late to keep it from being seen. The network has apologized for failing to block M.I.A.'s middle finger, saying its system "was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture." An NFL spokesman said the gesture "was completely inappropriate" and "very disappointing."
