PORTLAND, Ore. -- Now in its 15th year, The Filmed By Bike festival returns to the Hollywood Theatre this weekend, showcasing 80 films from 18 countries.
Festival director and founder Ayleen Crotty says the three-day festival features work from 74 different filmmakers.
"Every year I am amazed by the variety of films we receive from all over the world," she told KGW. "This is a chance for Portland-area movie lovers to be wowed with a stunning international collection of films."
It's come a long way since 2003, when just a handful of bicycle-themed movies on VHS were shown in a now-defunct, 40-seat Alberta Street microtheater.
The festival kicks off Friday at 5 p.m. with a free, all ages street party outside Velo Cult Bike Shop. It continues throughout the weekend with six unique programs tailored to a variety of audiences.
