HILLSBORO -- Laika Studios hopes to be celebrating a win when the Oscars are announced in February.
"Paranorman" was nominated for best animated feature for 2012.
Laika's first stop-motion animated feature "Coraline" was nominated in 2010.
"Paranorman" is the tale of a small-town Massachusetts boy who sees dead people and uses his special powers to fight a zombie uprising.
To win the Oscar would be the icing on the cake. So far "Paranorman" has won eight Annies for animation, plus five awards from the Visual Effects Society and it has been nominated for a BAFTA -- The British Academy Film Awards.
"I was working out in a park, in Northeast Portland and my boot camp instructor had and iPhone. He's looking (nominations) up as I'm doing my sit ups at 6 O'clock. We all cheered," said Georgina Hayns, head of puppet fabrication for Laika studios.
For the 350 people who worked on the film, it was high five's all around.
The nomination gives "Paranorman" the film another life in rentals and DVD sales.
The Oscars will be handed out February 24th.
