Actor Kyle MacLachlan stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers Monday to set the record straight about an anthem to Portland that he sang on the show “Portlandia.”

MacLachlan, famous for his roles on “Twin Peaks,” “Desperate Housewives” and the new NBC show “Believe,” also plays Portland’s mayor on the Portland-centric sketch comedy show.

MacLachlan told Meyers that, in a 2012 episode, he was set to sing a long-winded song about the Rose City.

But on the day of the show, he hadn’t yet received the lyrics from the show’s director.

“John, our director, had the music and he said, ‘Listen to this, this is the song you’re going to be singing later in the day,’” MacLachlan said.

“I said, ‘OK,’ I’m listening to the music, listening to the music, getting the melody.” Then he asked John for the song’s lyrics. “He said, ‘There’s no lyrics. You are going to make it up.’”

The Portland theme on the Late Show didn’t stop Monday. On Tuesday, Seth Meyers is set to drink his coffee from a very special cup – one that features the KGW Sunrise logo.
