PORTLAND - The latest test for Portland's tastebuds will be this Sunday as the Churn and Burn hot sauce and ice cream takedown hits town.
Portland's Salt and Straw, Scoop and a host of other chefs are coming to the event Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Goodfoot on Southeast Stark.
Organizer Matt Timms is in town from NYC to host one of the latest food takedown competitions across the country, from chili to bacon.
Timms says this one has a science to it - the coldness, sugariness and base-ness of the ice cream will compliment the variety of spice from the hot sauces.
It’s the second of a three-city tour - Boston, PDX and SF.
“My favorite hot sauce was a blueberry raspberry habanero hot sauce – magic,” Timms said.
Timms expressed his appreciation of Portland's fondness for all things food.
“So far … got to eat at Lardo, Whiffie’s Pies, Potato Champion, and rad Chinese at Lucky Strike, had a sick drink at Kask, and some good times at The Spare Room.”
Tickets are $15 and based on the Bacon Takedown I took part in last year, come a little early. (The line was around the block!)
And a portion of procedes benefit Women’s Education Project.
