PORTLAND, Ore. -- The national premiere of a new television series filmed in Portland was set for Friday night on NBC.

The series “Grimm” is about a fictional Portland homicide detective named Nick Burkhardt who can see monsters from Grimm’s fairy tales. He's a descendant of the famed German story-telling brothers of the 19th century.

The shows' producers say the lush, green Portland backdrop adds to the show's mystical setting.

“Our crew is almost 100 percent Portland-based - and they work very well in the constant perma-rain that Portland has going on, and the forests are so wonderful to work in,” said Grimm actor David Guintoli.

“It has been a wonderful experience,” said Silas Weir Mitchell with Grimm. “Everyone is really welcoming, the city is very happy to have us here, we're really happy to be here and there's nothing I don't like about Portland. Honestly, I couldn't imagine a better place to work.”

The premier of Grimm airs at 9 p.m. on KGW-TV.
