First, reading the book "The Fault in Our Stars" made fans cry, then the movie made them cry. Now the anniversary of one of the characters' death is making them cry even more.
(If you haven't read the book or seen the movie and don't want spoilers, don't read on.)
On Wednesday, fans of the teen cancer drama deduced that July 2 is the day that fictional character Augustus "Gus" Waters, played by Ansel Elgort, died.
Hazel said that July 14th is twelve days after Augustus died today is July 2nd today is tHE DAY HE DIED I'M NOT OKAY #RIPAugustusWaters— PerksOfBeingAFanboy. (@LiamKelsall) July 2, 2014
And this realization made many fans very, very sad.
so augustus waters died today excuse me while i cry into my pillow for 6 hours #RIPAugustusWaters— Rideau (@not_the_canal) July 2, 2014

Some fans held a moment of silence for Gus.
Others recognized the fact that he is fictional, but that didn't stop them from feeling all of the feels.
#RIPAugustusWaters tears...I'm too emotional... I know he wasn't real, but in a way, he was.— okay? (@alliediodato) July 3, 2014
The pain of these fans went global Wednesday afternoon, as "RIP Augustus Waters" was trending worldwide.
If Augustus were alive and real today, he would probably say to those fans what he said to Hazel Grace in the book: "That's the thing about pain. It demands to be felt."
