PORTLAND, Ore. – Former Multnomah County Sheriff Bernie Giusto is back in a public position after winning a seat on the Multnomah Education Service District in Tuesday’s election. MORE: Election results

Voters were asked to choose seats for county and city education policy, park districts and water agencies, as well as a few ballot measures.

LaVonne Griffin-Valade was elected City of Portland Auditor. She previously served as the Multnomah County Auditor and is replacing Gary Blackmer, who announced his resignation last fall.

Giusto ran unopposed and will not be paid for the position. He resigned last summer amid an investigation into whether or not he lied to the public about former Governor Neil Goldschmidt’s sex abuse. Goldschmidt admitted in 2004 that he had sex with a teenage girl when he was mayor of Portland in the 1970s, leading to allegations that Giusto knew about it and helped cover it up.

Former staffers and confidantes also said Giusto had an affair with the governor's then wife Margie, then was transferred to other duties. At issue was if he lied to his bosses when questioned about the relationship or more recently to reporters when they asked about the circumstances surrounding his transfer.

Giusto has denied any wrongdoing.
